a) Sau Do & Do not , Did & Did not , Can & Cannot, Could& Could not , May & May not , Might& Might not , Must& Must not, Shall &Shall not, Should& Should not , Will &Will not, Would& Would not , Need& Need not , Dare& Dare not .

Ví dụ :

- Do say you'll help them ! (Hãy nói rằng anh sẽ giúp họ!)

- They didn't go to church last week (Tuần rồi, họ không đi lễ)

- She daren't answer my question (Cô ta không dám trả lời câu hỏi của tôi)

- You musn't interrupt me now (Anh không được ngắt lời tôi lúc này)

b) Sau các động từ Feel, See, Hear, Watch, Had better, Would rather,Would sooner, Let, Make, Have.

Ví dụ :

- I heard him knock at the door (Tôi nghe hắn gõ cửa)

- Did you see her cross the road? (Anh có thấy cô ta băng qua đ­ường hay không?)

- You'd better not tell lies (Anh đừng nói dối thì hơn)

- I'd rather work than sleep all day long

- He would sooner retire on a pension than take part in such scandalous business deals (Ông ta nên về nghỉ ăn l­ương h­ưu hơn là tham gia vào những vụ làm ăn tai tiếng như­ vậy)

- Let me know what you are doing (Hãy cho tôi biết các anh đang làm gì)

- Have your driver meet me at the airport

(Hãy dặn tài xế của anh đón tôi tại tại phi trường)
